Subtropical courtyard, Pt Chevalier

Our clients' brief

Our clients on this project are keen gardeners in need of a little design guidance to enhance and bring harmony to their existing courtyard garden. They also wanted to create privacy without blocking light so that their love of subtropical plants could be pursued.

Our design response

There was no need to go back to the drawing board for this project as the existing garden was already colourful and included plants that could contribute to the desired subtropical feel.

Our role was to help create cohesion and we recommended some repeat planting to help achieve this, as well as some new additions such as hibiscus and spotted ligularia to add a touch of drama. A new harmony also came from careful positioning of plants to create layers without overwhelming the eye.

Lastly, some japanese maples provide seasonal interest and privacy, while still letting the winter light through once they drop their leaves.

In our clients' words

"Kate and Crystal understood our vision for the garden from the beginning and the result far exceeded our expectations.  Their clever design, plant and tree choices together with the integration of existing plants has created a beautiful garden full of colour, texture and interest year round and we enjoy it every day.

Kate and her team are super friendly, hardworking, and generously share their extensive knowledge of all things gardening.  We continue to have an ongoing relationship with them for follow-ups and seasonal maintenance. We recommend them without hesitation."
